# Google Tag Manager

Google Tag Manager is a free tool that lets you quickly and easily create and update pieces of code that help you track customer behavior, monitor your store’s performance, and much more.

### 1. Google Tag Manager Benefits

Creating tags in [Google Tag Manager (GTM)](https://tagmanager.google.com/) lets you deploy tracking code to your website instantly - no manual backend coding required. You can add, edit, or disable all your tags on the fly from a single place.

GTM supports a wide variety of tags:

* Google products (Analytics, Ads)
* Third-party platforms (Meta, Pinterest, X/Twitter)
* Custom tags

By combining tags and triggers, you can monitor any store event to analyze customer behavior, popular products, and conversion funnels. Track page views, clicks, scrolls, cart updates, and more.

### 2. Creating a GTM account and your store’s container <a href="#creating-a-gtm-account-and-your-stores-container_hash" id="creating-a-gtm-account-and-your-stores-container_hash"></a>

If you already have a Google Tag Manager account and container for your store, you can skip to the next section to connect it to BDP.

If you need to create a new GTM account:

1. Go to [tagmanager.google.com](https://tagmanager.google.com/?authuser=3) and sign in with your Google account.
2. Click Create Account.
3. Enter your Account Name and select your country.
4. Enter a Container name (e.g., your store URL) and select Web as the target platform.
5. Click Create and accept the Terms of Service.

You're all set! Now that your GTM account and container are ready, close the installation code popup that appears. Then, copy your Container ID (formatted as `GTM-XXXXXX`) from the top right corner of the page.

### 3. Connecting Google Tag Manager to your store <a href="#connecting-google-tag-manager-to-your-store_hash" id="connecting-google-tag-manager-to-your-store_hash"></a>

1. Go to [tagmanager.google.com](https://tagmanager.google.com/) and copy the ID for the container you want to use with your BDP Account.
2. Navigate to Settings → Analytics → Google Tag Manager
3. Locate the Google Tag Manager Container ID field and paste the copied ID (`GTM-XXXXXX`).
4. Click Save.

### 3. What Happens Next?

You can now manage all your tracking tags directly inside Google Tag Manager. Any tags you set up there will automatically apply to your BDP store without needing any additional code changes on the BDP side.
